Sci-fi Readalong Announcement

Hello, everybody!

Today is a great day. I have finally completed all of my Bachelor courses for my Psychology degree and as you can imagine I have way fewer school responsibilities on my plate – the full completion of my thesis remains. So what better time to join a readalong!

This is a science fiction readalong that is hosted by SFF180 on youtube. If you haven’t checked his channel, it’s great you should definitely go take a look (link below). SFF180 is somewhat different from the usual booktubers we nowadays find on BookTube. He is reviewing and presenting mostly sci-fi and fantasy books which is great for us who were looking for more book channels specifically talking about this two genres.

So, as you will see in the video below, this Readalong takes place from the 24th of June and goes on until the 22nd of July. That’s four weeks in total.

The two books that we are reading are Sun of Suns and Queen of Candence both by Karl Schroeder. These are books 1 and 2 accordingly to the Virga series. Here’s what the first book is about:

Sun of Suns by Karl Schroeder

Sun of Suns (Virga, #1) It is the distant future. The world known as Virga is a fullerene balloon three thousand kilometers in diameter, filled with air, water, and aimlessly floating chunks of rock. The humans who live in this vast environment must build their own fusion suns and “towns” that are in the shape of enormous wood and rope wheels that are spun for gravity.

Young, fit, bitter, and friendless, Hayden Griffin is a very dangerous man. He’s come to the city of Rush in the nation of Slipstream with one thing in mind: to take murderous revenge for the deaths of his parents six years ago. His target is Admiral Chaison Fanning, head of the fleet of Slipstream, which conquered Hayden’s nation of Aerie years ago. And the fact that Hayden’s spent his adolescence living with pirates doesn’t bode well for Fanning’s chances…

SFF180 chose these two books specifically to introduce readers who want to emerse themselves into sci-fi books but may feel too intimidated by the hard science of the genre. This book is more of an adventure read and it sounds very exciting.

So, how can you join us on the readalon? First you need to get your hands on the books. A bind up edition of both of these book is available on paperback called Virga: Cities of the Air. Here are the links to the BookDepository:

Here’s the video of SFF180 talking about the readalong:

I hope you’ll join us! Let me know if you like the idea of the books and if you are interested in reading more sci-fi stories!
